👩‍💻Exploring and Analysing Digital Devices

Gender stereotypes in technology continue to create barriers for women entering and advancing in tech careers. This activity will help you understand these challenges while building confidence and creating supportive networks to empower yourself and your peers in the tech field.

🎯 Objective

The objective of this activity is to help you understand the various types of digital devices and their applications. By exploring and analysing these devices, you’ll gain insights into how they can be used to enhance productivity, convenience, and connectivity in your daily life.

🛠️ Activity Instructions

Part 1: Research and Identify Digital Devices â–Ľ
  1. 1. Research Different Devices: Conduct online research to explore different types of digital devices. Focus on the following categories:
    • Smartphones
    • Tablets
    • Laptops
    • Desktops
    • Wearables (e.g., smartwatches, fitness trackers)
    • Smart Home Devices (e.g., smart speakers, smart thermostats, security systems)
  2. 2. Compare and Contrast: Compare two devices from different categories (e.g., a smartphone and a tablet) and analyse how their features and applications differ. Consider factors like portability, performance, and the type of tasks each device is best suited for. Write a brief comparison (150-200 words) highlighting the differences and similarities between the two devices. Discuss which device might be more suitable for specific tasks and why.
Part 2: Practical Exploration â–Ľ
  • 1. Hands-On Exploration: Choose a specific tech skill you'd like to improve or learn. Examples include:
    • If you have access to any of the devices you researched, take some time to explore their functionalities. For example, if you have a smartphone and a tablet, use each device to perform tasks like browsing the web, watching a video, and managing emails. Note the user experience and ease of use.
    • Write a reflection (150-200 words) on your experience using the devices. Discuss how intuitive the devices were, any challenges you faced, and which device you preferred for specific tasks.
  • 2. Application Exploration: Write a short plan (100-150 words) that includes:
    • Choose at least one application (app) that is commonly used on smartphones or tablets, such as a communication app (e.g., WhatsApp), a productivity app (e.g., Microsoft Word), or a media app (e.g., Netflix). Explore the app’s features and how it enhances the functionality of the device.
    • Create a short review (100-150 words) of the app, discussing its key features, usability, and how it contributes to the overall user experience on the device.
