Practicing your presentation is very important. This will ensure that you have familiarised yourself with the content, order, and timing of the presentation, and that your own style, body language and voice tone support your narrative.
Fortunately, PowerPoint contains a tool to assist you in rehearsing your presentation. Watch this video to learn how to use the Rehearse with Coach function on PowerPoint.
Once you have practiced your presentation with the Rehearse with Coach feature, your feedback will include the following, namely:
- The time spent on slides.
- The pace, on whether you speak too fast or too slow.
- The pointing out of repetitive language usage, e.g., very, like, actually, basically.
- The use of filler-words, e.g., uhm, ahh, err.
- Originality, and authentic use of language in addressing the audience instead of just reading the slides.
- Pitch: the tone of your voice should reflect emphasis and stresses on key points.
Activity:
1. Rehearse the first three slides for an online presentation.
2. Study the report giving you feedback on your presentation.
3. In the comment section indicate any improvements you will make.
4. Post all difficulties that you encounter in the comments section.
