In this course, you will learn how to prepare, create, and present a presentation using the popular presentation program, Microsoft PowerPoint.

You may find yourself tasked with creating a PowerPoint presentation in various academic and professional settings. This could involve showcasing your research findings, presenting a proposal, or even delivering a presentation during a job interview. Although we'll focus on university assignments for this course, the fundamental principles we discuss can be applied to any context.

By the end of this section, you will:

  • Understand what a presentation in an academic environment requires.
  • Know how to create a presentation by:
    • Establishing its purpose
    • Planning a suitable structure
    • Preparing the content
    • Creating a suitable script
    • Analysing the environment in which you will present
    • Implementing best practices
  • Use PowerPoint online to create and edit a presentation.
  • Distinguish between PowerPoint Online and the PowerPoint desktop app.
  • Understand the basic tools of PowerPoint online.

What you will create

Throughout this course, we will teach you how to prepare and create a PowerPoint Presentation in an academic environment, using MS PowerPoint  (specifically the online version available in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite). We will provide practical tutorials that gradually introduce you to new skills, terminology, and requirements. Thus, for your final task, you will be given an article to use as the basis for your presentation, in which you will apply the skills and best practices you have been taught. Afterwards, you will learn how to present this presentation in person and online. This will be followed by voice notes which will give you the opportunity to evaluate yourself.

Note - This is only an example of a presentation outline and you should always consult your university or college requirements.
