Headers, Footers and Page Numbers
To finalise our Assignment, we need to add page numbers and the assignment information to each page. To achieve this, we will add the information to the header and footer of the page, a section of the page that is replicated on all the pages in the document.
The Header & Footer group is found on the Insert ribbon and is used to edit the header and footer of the document.

Activity Steps
Let us start by inserting the header information:
1 | Select Insert from the quick access bar. |
2 | Click on Header & Footer. |
3 | Three columns with one row will appear at the top and bottom of the screen. |
4 | In the top first column insert - Module: ENG1501 |
5 | In the top middle column insert - Assignment: 01 |
6 | Int top right column insert – Student Number: [Your student number] |
7 | This will put the header on all the pages, but we don’t want the header to display on the first page as we have a cover page that has the exact same information. To prevent the header from displaying on the first page click on Options on the top right-hand side of the top header area and select Different First Page. Now the header and footer will not be displayed on the first page. |
8 | Click any where in the document area to close the header. |
Let’s insert page numbers to our assignment.
