Inserting and working with tables

Question 3 requires us to insert a table listing all the acts and scenes of the Hamlet play. For this we will use the Insert Table option found on the Insert ribbon within the Tables group. Then, from the Design ribbon we will add automatic formatting to our table to increase its readability.

The Insert Tables option quickly adds a table document.

The Table Styles from the Design ribbon automatically formats tables from a predefined set of styles.

Activity Steps

Complete the following steps:

1 At the end of the quotation of Question 2, insert a Page Break and then insert the text Question 3. Format this text the same as the Question 1 and 2 headings.
2 On a new line insert a new Table with 6 rows and 2 columns by clicking Insert Table from the Insert ribbon under the Tables group and drag over the grid with the mouse until a 2X6 Table is achieved.
3 In the header row, the top row inserts the world “Act” in the first column and “Scenes” in the second column.

Note: You can use the tab key to quickly move from one cell to the next.

4 Under the “Act” header number the rows from 1 to 5 to represent all the Acts of the play.
5 For each act, add the following number of scenes:
  • Act 1: 5
  • Act 2: 2
  • Act 3: 4
  • Act 4: 7
  • Act 5: 2

All the required information has now been added, but we can format the table to improve the readability of the content.
