Steps:

  1. Open a new Microsoft Word document. 
  2. Save your MS Document.
  3. Insert a Header and Footer.  
    • Insert a three-column header with name (left), date (center), and period (right) as shown in the previous two activities. 
    • Insert the footer Word Processing 3. Center the footer text. 
    • Close your header and footer. 
  4. Insert the Title and Author of the Poem. 
    • Choose Centre justification. 
    • Set the font to Gigi, the font size to 26 point, and the font style to Bold.
    • Type the poem title, African Flame. Be sure you have capitalized the first letter of each word. Press ENTER once. 
    • Click Bold again to deselect it; change the font size to 20 point.
    • Type by: Wayne Visser. Be sure to capitalize as shown. 
    • Press ENTER twice. Select Align Text Left for left
  5. Adjust Your Line Spacing
    • Select the Page Layout tab. 
    • In the Paragraph group, in the Spacing tool, set After to 0. This will keep there from being too much space between your poem lines. 
  6. Type the Body of the Poem African Flame available here.
    • Set the font to Calibri and the font size to 14 point. 
    • Type the five stanzas of the poem as shown on the other size of this paper. The text should be typed exactly as shown. Type ENTER at the end of each line and ENTER again after each stanza for separation. 
  7. Check the Word Count in Your Document
    • Look at the Status Bar in the lower left-hand corner of your document. It should read Words: 120. If it is lower than 120, you are missing words; if it is higher you have extra words. Reread your poem (including the title and author) to see where you have made a mistake. If necessary, have a partner read the poem from the paper aloud while you follow along on your monitor. 
  8. Proofread Your Document
    • Look at words that underlined in red, green, or blue. 
    • A word underlined in red is not in the dictionary. Most likely you have misspelled it. Right-click on the word with your mouse to see suggestions for the correct spelling. 
    • Words underlined in blue are often grammar or usage errors. For example, if you type “its” instead of “it’s” you will likely see the word underlined in blue. In some cases, you may have hit the space bar too many (or too few) times. 
    • Words underlined in amber often have a clarity or conciseness error. This means your writing could have been clearer and you should consider revising. An example is use of the phrase ‘pretty bad”, which Word suggests be modified to simply “bad”. 
  9. Make sure all your work fits on one page. 
  10. Save your work, and use the rubric linked below to self-evaluate your activity

The activity was interesting. I had challenges with sharing the document but eventually managed. Everything turned out well, I managed to get the just of it. The only thing that was a bit of a challenge was the amount of words stated that we should have which mine was a bit too much, but I have it typed as from the page.

Since I don't have Microsoft 360, I was unable to change the font to Gigi as it is a premium feature. There were no errors in the text. However, the instructions that the word are 120 in total is incorrect; the poem itself is 131 words.

The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often shortened to Hamlet. Set in Denmark, the play dramatises the revenge Prince Hamlet are called to wreak upon his uncle, Claudius, by the ghost of Hamlet's father, King Hamlet. Claudius had murdered his own brother and seized the throne, also marrying his deceased brother's widow.
In the first act the protagonist of Hamlet is Prince Hamlet of Denmark, son of the recently deceased King Hamlet, and nephew of King Claudius, his father's brother and successor. Claudius hastily married King Hamlet's widow, Gertrude, Hamlet's mother, and took the throne for himself. Denmark has a long-standing feud with neighboring Norway, in which King Hamlet slew King Fortinbras of Norway in a battle some years ago. Although Denmark defeated Norway, and the Norwegian throne fell to King Fortinbras's infirm brother, Denmark fears that an invazion led by the dead Norwegian king's son, Prince Fortinbras, is imminent.

I struggled to keep this document under 120 words and my header would let me put a column in it or at least with the information next to each other, I also struggled to share the document and I'm still not quite sure if I have gotten it right or not.
